St Catherine’s Hill family walk and picnic

The weather was perfect for our family picnic and geography field trip to St Catherine’s Hill. It was a pleasure to walk with our children and parents on our 3-mile round trip, taking in the beautiful views. As an added bonus, some children discovered an ice-cream van in the carpark.

Maple

 Maple enjoyed learning phonics and practicing their fine motor skills.

Rowan

This week Rowan class finished their first English unit where they wrote a letter in character to the other forest animals. They have put so much care and attention into their writing. It has been a joy to see. Well done

Sycamore

Families of children from Sycamore, Aspen and Elm took part in a walk to appreciate our local geography. Luckily, the weather was kind to us and we enjoyed beautiful views of Stanmore and the wider city from the top of St. Catherine's Hill. 

Aspen

In PE we have been looking at canon in dance, thinking about the effect of children performing the same movements at different times. In art we have been learning about POP art.

Elm

This week in Elm class we were developing our artistic skills and making pop art.

Appreciating colour, music and the natural world

Rowan Class

Rowan class have continued to investigate primary and secondary colours by mixing different hues. They had to try and make different hues that appeared in a composition of items. They loved to see all the different types of purple, orange and green they could make. 

Sycamore

Sycamore have been the first class to enjoy Forest School. It's been great to enjoy the great outdoors! 

Aspen

This week in PE, we have been looking at our shapes in gymnastics and completing moves and games using these shapes

Fabulous first full week

Maple

Our new members of Maple Class have had such a lovely first week of school! They've spent lots of time exploring their new classroom, making new friends, meeting new adults and having fun! We are so excited for this year! Year 1 have thought carefully about how to mix two primary colours to make different hues.

Rowan

Rowan class have really enjoyed starting their computing unit, all about IT around the world. Today we focussed on IT we use in school and how it can be used in different ways. 

Sycamore

 Sycamore Class have continued with our 'winged wonders' project. They have been working hard to explore different resources to make a mixed media butterfly. 

Aspen

We have been looking at anatomical sketches of wildlife, and the purpose of these sketches historically for science. We have attempted detailed sketches of some creatures as part of this.

Elm

This week in Elm class in computing we were looking at how the internet sends and receives information. The children were identifying IP addresses of different websites to ensure that information was sent and received correctly.
